Here's an excerpt:
She glanced at Trey.
He raised a dark eyebrow. "You used to know when I was near."
"Been a long time since I've had to watch my back."
His long slender fingers spread across his chest. "That hurt."
"Truth does."
Cal looked her way from the beer tent, his brows knit. The carnies didn't often stop to talk to the firefighters. Cal moved his big frame in front of her as if she needed protection.
She noted that he looked tired. Maybe she shouldn't bring up her idea about finding her parents today. It could wait until the fair was over.
His pace was slow but steady as he moved toward her. He tugged Mark, the new guy, along with him.
The idea always amused her when they circled the wagons around her. It was sweet how they protected her.
They had no clue she could defend herself armed or unarmed. That information didn't go along with her trust fund reputation. No need to enlighten them.
Trey's words brought her back. "Have you thought about it?"
"Yes."
"And."
"I didn't come up with an answer." She wouldn't be rushed. She would decide this in her own damn time. Not on someone else's schedule.
"Better soon."
"You better move on, Trey."
He glanced back at the firefighters who walked his way. A sardonic grin creased his face. "Well, well."
"Leave, Trey. I don't want to see anyone hurt."
"Me or them?"
He walked past her as if she didn't exist.
Blurb:
YOU JUST CAN'T HIDE FROM THE PAST...
Mallory Sage lives in a small, idyllic town where nothing ever happens. Just the kind of life she has always wanted. No one, not even her fellow volunteer firefighters, knows about her past life as an agent for Homeland Security.
Former partner and lover, Trey McCrane, comes back into Mallory's life. He believes they made a great team once, and that they can do so again. Besides, they don't have much choice. Paul Stanley, a twisted killer and their old nemesis, is back.
Framed for a bombing and drawn together by necessity, Mallory and Trey go on the run and must learn to trust each other again―if they hope to survive. But Mallory has been hiding another secret, one that could destroy their relationship. And time is running out.

Dumb Criminals
I guess they are all dumb or they would have picked a better line of work.
Here's a guy who tried to show his love for his latest girlfriend, but it all went up in flames. http://www.truecrimereport.com/2010/12/leonard_spagnolo_stupid_boyfri.php#more
Here are the 21 dumbest criminals. My fave being the author. And no I've never truly committed any crimes I've written about.

Be careful or you'll end up in my novel.
So proclaims a sweatshirt I got for Christmas last year.
I also have a mug that says, "I kill my enemies in my books. You're on page 12."
You think I'm kidding.
I always joke with people that if they make me mad, they will die a horrible death in one of my books.
Heh, heh.
Well, sort of.
The person would never recognize themselves. I'm smarter than that.
It is very cathartic.
Plus what goes around comes around, but you don't always get to see someone's comeuppance.
So that second grade teacher who told me lions weren't purple? Dealt with.
And many others.
What does it mean?
I don't have to hold grudges.
They are gone. They don't weigh me down and I can concentrate on the more positive people in my life.
So my next question.
Who wants to be next?
Merry Christmas.
Chris Redding's latest book, Incendiary, is out in electronic format this past week. It will be out in print in the Spring.

1000 Ways to Die
Or how I get ideas. Or how twisted I am. However you want to look at it.
I've been mulling this blog post over for about two weeks. Ever since I saw the show 1,000 Ways to Die on Spike TV.
The ways of dying range from very tragic to almost funny. Some I have trouble believing.
As I am watching the show, I'm thinking that some of these ways could also be murder and be staged to look like accidents.
This never brings the warm and fuzzy feelings to my husband. He's safe. Really, he is.
One person died because they yanked a fish out of the water and it flew into her mouth. It jammed in there and the scaled kept catching so she couldn't pull it out. She choked to death.
Now imagine a wife is so sick of her husband and he's just brought home a fresh fish. You can fill in the rest.
This is how we writers think. We take everyday situations and twist them for our own use.
I don't know about other writers, but I find I often have to bite my tongue in conversation, especially with people who don't know me.
So have you read about an odd way that someone died?

The write stuff
The last post has the New Kids On the Block song The Right Stuff running through, my head. Lucky me.
Well, I'm new to Criminal Minds at Work so I thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm Chris Redding.
I write suspense and romantic suspense. Corpse Whisperer will be out soon on the Kindle. Incendiary will be out in print later in the year.
I also have my own blog where I host authors regularly. http://chrisredddingauthor.blogspot.com/. The third "d" is for "Duh, I didn't check my spelling."
When I'm not writing I work part time for the Emergency Medical Services Department of my local hospital. I also teach an online course several times a year called "Show Up Naked: Writing the Male POV." I'm also working on two other courses for next year. Summer's fun that way. I write curriculum.
I plan to bring you authors, my observations about crime and any other oddities I can find.
Thank you to Cheryl for asking me to join this fun group. And her's a pic of our three week old mini-rex bunnies.
